First AUTOSAR-conform operating system on
Intel® Atom™ Processor (x86 platform)

Berlin, 3rd of February OpenSynergy is going to launch its first release of their car operating system COQOS at CeBIT at Intel Pavillon P33. COQOS is based on virtualization technology which allows communication between different Infotainment applications and AUTOSAR applications on one single hardware. This enables car manufacturers to reduce the number of ECUs, minimize development costs and allows the implementation of new functions on a single SoC. In the first release COQOS comes with a Development Suite. At CeBIT OpenSynergy will present COQOS on an evaluation board based on the Intel Atom processor technology x86. Currently several car manufacturers are already evaluating the use of the COQOS platform.

COQOS Architecture
The heart of COQOS is the Micro Operating System (µOS) shown in picture 1 which handles the partitioning and the communication between the Infotainment and AUTOSAR world. The partitioning is enabled by virtualization which is a common technology in the IT industry. The small µOS plays the role of an AUTOSAR OS in a standard AUTOSAR compliant basic software. For safety reasons in that concept the Infotainment system will be considered as the Guest System. This ensures the independency of the Infotainment applications from the AUTOSAR environment of the car. In COQOS an AUTOSAR Basic Software and a 100% AUTOSAR conform RTE is implemented to handle communication. COQOS on the Infotainment side currently supports Linux-based systems. COQOS Benefits
The architecture of COQOS is well defined, focuses on automotive standards and can be used for different use cases. The architecture of COQOS integrates Infotainment applications with AUTOSAR applications on a single hardware. For a car manufacturer this supports the goal to reduce the number of ECUs and to save costs in the long-term.
